SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a worthwhile investment for any business organisation that wishes to increase their online exposure, but there is plenty more to consider other than just SEO.
A beset by penalties is a common and familiar situation for too many businesses these days. researched online, many say that they have been penalised in some way by Google, although to be fair, they may have accidentally transferred some of their responsibility for SEO to another party, without meaning to do so. When this happens, it can be extremely frustrating to investigate, as there can be no reporting of inappropriate links as they wouldn’t know themselves if they had passed over your site.
The core area of SEO that is often affected by penalties is keyword lists. If your site contains too many keywords, particularly in a list format, Google will then class the matter down to its lowest order, which might mean low ranking in other search results. A further option would be to purchase a domain name that contains as few keywords as possible.
Linking is an ongoing process that must be done from a proprietory point of view, with a continual effort in order to maintain a high standard. Websites that link to other websites solely for the purpose of providing more exposure for the receiving site may themselves be affected by Google penalties. If a well ranking website links to your site but does not display the link on their own site, it technically won’t help you. This can be avoided by ensuring that links are displayed on the homepage, which will display the code that enables it, along with a title and description that will entice visitors to click. It’s important to ensure that all links to interior pages on your site are linked on every page. This will mean that each link will carry a ‘link back’ to the homepage. It will also mean that many more people will be able to find your site easily.
Google offers some useful tips about Avoiding Penalties for Search Engine Optimisation.
Avoid linking to what Google considers to be low-quality pages, clearly defined (ie, those on a shopping site that haven’t got a single sale in mind.)
If safety is your top priority, then avoid displaying hidden text and links. A link that is not hidden can be marked as a link to the home page i.e. receiving a link from the home page and not your inner pages.
